Just check it out if you have a plan to explore the western ghats in India.
Here are the 8 most beautiful waterfalls in the Western Ghats:
1. Jog Falls

Jog Falls is the second-largest waterfall in India. So you can imagine how beautiful the waters are in the western ghats. Jog Falls is located in Karnataka. The base village for this waterfall is Suddhapur. This waterfall is on the Sharvani River, and the total height of this waterfall is 830 feet. This is most likely a tourist destination in the Western Ghats. And if you want to experience a thrilling view of this waterfall, then you must visit it in July or August. This is the mid-monsoon season, so this is the best time to visit this waterfall.
2. Dudhsagar Falls:
Dudhsagar Waterfall is also on the list of the tallest waterfalls in India. Dudhsagar waterfall is located in Goa. By road, it’s only 60 km from Panjim. Vasco the Gama station train passes through this waterfall, and that view makes for the best and most beautiful view of this unique waterfall. Mostly in the middle of the monsoon season, this waterfall is closed, so if you are planning to visit this waterfall, just make sure to keep tracking local updates.
3. Athirappilly Falls
Athirappilly is the most famous and largest waterfall in Kerala. It’s just 60 km from Thrissur District, Kerala. This waterfall is 80 feet high. This waterfall is on the Chalakudy River, which starts in the western ghats. It’s located near Thrissur district; that’s why you can easily get local transport to visit this waterfall. The road to reach this waterfall is very beautiful because it goes through small villages, deep forests, and small waterfalls. Just add this spot to your next visit to Thrissur, Kerala.
4. Meenmutty Falls
Meenmutty Falls is located in Wayanad, the most beautiful place in Kerala. And one of the best things is that this waterfall is on the route from Munnar to Kochi, so if you are planning for Munnar, then you must visit this place. This waterfall’s height is 300 feet, and the largest drop of this waterfall is 1000 feet high.
To reach the waterfall, you have to do a 2-kilometer forest trek. They have the best photoshoot points and beautiful views. Wayanad entry fees start at 30 to 100 rupees, and the timing to visit this waterfall is from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wayanad is a deep forest, so you have to follow forest rules.
5. Irupu Falls

Iruppu waterfall is located in the Brahmagiri mountain range of the western ghats of Karnataka. This fall is known as Lakshaman Tirtha Falls because it’s on the Lakshman Tirtha River. This is located at 170 feet high. The falls are just 47 km from Virajpet. Local people have stories that are related to the Ramayana, and they said Lakshaman shot an arrow at Brahmagiri Hill, which led to the origin of this river.
So, as per the locals, this place is connected with God Lakshamana and God Ram. Entry fees to reach this waterfall are 50 rupees, and you need 2 to 3 hours to reach your destination. And you can enjoy swimming at the base of this waterfall. If you love swimming, then just don’t miss this experience.
6. Abbey Falls
Abbey Waterfall is one of the famous waterfalls in Coorg, in the western ghats of Karnataka. The base village for this waterfall is Madikeri. This is on the Kaveri River, located between coffee trees. The beauty of this waterfall is incredible, and I am not able to explain it in words. Tourists are attracted to this waterfall just for the hanging bridge constructed just opposite the falls. And this fall is also known as Jessi Falls.
7. Vazhachal Falls
Vazhachat waterfall is also located in Thrissur district, Kerala. This waterfall is on the flowing Chalakudy River from the western ghats. This is 390 feet high. Here, you have to pay 50 rupees for an entry pass. If you are visiting this waterfall during the monsoon, then the route from Thrissur to Vazhachal has many small, big waterfalls.
This place is less famous, so if you want a crowd-free nature place, then you must visit this waterfall. This is smaller than Athirapally’s waterfalls but crooked, and here you can enjoy nature’s company.
8. Hebbe Falls
Hebbe Falls is located near one of the famous hill stations, Kemmangundi, in Karnataka. This waterfall is surrounded by a coffee plantation. Here you can do trekking, but as per my experience, just go with a local government-approved forest jeep. This dark forest is filled with leeches, so it’s not safe for bigger trekkers, but if you have proper shoes and know how to survive in this situation, then go for it. And one more thing: the Jeep needs 15 people to start, and they cost 500 rupees for a single person.
